Tel Aviv’s “White City” was recognised as a World Heritage site, due to its unique collection of Bauhaus architecture. “Tel Aviv is an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture in the early 20th century, adapted to the requirements of a particular cultural and geographic context”, reads the UNESCO decision.
Bauhaus is a school of architecture started in early 20th century Germany, and brought to what was then Palestine. It aspires to create “artistic” architecture, using the most basic ingredients of art and design.
